Jogging every time on a treadmill will create boredom, and you will be less likely to stick to your weight-loss plan. Here are 7 steps to find new ways to kill your workout boredom!

1 - Join a class

Exercise does not have to be boring. Learn to associate exercise with learning a new skill, socializing, happiness, etc. Try joining a class, like salsa dancing, boxing, skating, or any other activity that interests you. You can make new friends, and at the same time, enjoy a good sweat out.

2- Create a reward system

This tip can apply to both men and women. Most people will save rewards for the end goal, like a 15-pound weight loss. Instead of that, try to focus more on accomplishments done through your behavior. E.g. Promise yourself to work out 3 times a week, and at the end of the week, buy something nice. It does not have to be a food item. A new magazine, a massage session, or a trip to the beach is an indulgence you can give to yourself.

3 - Walk a Dog

If you don’t have one, borrow from a neighbor. Offer to do the task of walking the dog, and the dog will be more than happy to accomplish for a brisk walk outside for some fresh air.

4 - Listen to music

Different kinds of music can ease exercise in several ways. Rock music can distract you from fatigue, and gives you a boost while running. Slow music encourages coordination. Sounds of nature relax your muscles to encourage blood flow. Or if you prefer, try audio books. Let the music flow into your mind as you work out.

5 - Alternate your activities

Include an exercise from each group - cardiovascular, strength training and flexibility in your workouts each week. Alternating all different kinds of exercises will take out the boredom of your work-outs. This will also prevent you from injuring yourself. E.g. After a session of weights today, do opt for jogging the next day to prevent straining the same group of muscles.

6 - Listen to your mood

Choose an exercise that will suit your current mood. If you are feeling down, go for a walk in the park, or a jog along the beach. If you are feeling stressed out from work, go for something high-energy, like bag-punching, or “Tae-Bo”. If you miss your friends, ask them out for beach-volley or a round of badminton.

7 - Get a new Video

Check out the library, the bookstore, or borrow a video from a friend. It can be yoga, aerobics, or even belly dancing. It is very convenient for a rainy day at home when you are free.
